Drum Studio and Home Office Studio Build, Surrey
The Brief
Our client approached us in need of a build that could serve as both a drum and guitar studio, as well as a functional home office. One half of the space needed to handle drums and guitar without compromise: a room capable of containing the energy of live playing whilst remaining an enjoyable place to be. The other half needed to function as a focused, quiet home office, completely removed from the distractions of the main house. The brief called for a single build that served both purposes without either one undermining the other.
The Build
We specified and delivered our Pro specification, now SB-4 — our flagship model — set on a concrete base in a rural Surrey garden. The exterior is finished in our Thermowood timber cladding, a roof overhang with integrated lighting, and timber decking, giving the studio a considered, permanent presence in the landscape. Inside, integrated air conditioning ensures the space is comfortable year-round, whether Brian is mid-session on the kit or in meetings on a working day at his desk.
The acoustic side of the build was specified around the dual use. GIK acoustic treatment throughout brings the room under control for both critical playing and focused work — managing reflections and decay time in a space that needs to feel right whether you're behind a drum kit or a computer screen. The SB-4's performance-engineered wall system and concrete base provide the structural isolation foundation that makes both uses possible from the same envelope.
The Result
The studio sits beautifully in a rural Surrey garden — a building that earns its place visually as much as it does acoustically. By day it functions as a calm, distraction-free home office, completely detached from the house. By evening and at weekends it becomes the perfect drum and guitar studio.
